The Simpsons Exchange has been revealed, finally! I started working on a new website in January 2009, and it’s been slow going ever since. Grissom hopped aboard, and Johnsy was here too, so now there’s a decent bit of content going. In the past three years, I’ve been slowly working on revamping the cars page from my old site Screaming Yellow Honkers, and I am quite proud with what’s there at the moment. Keep checking back, as I will be adding more now that my schedule allows me to.
Even the Boston Phoenix?
Yes, Krusty. So if you’ve inadvertently stumbled upon this here little site, welcome! SimpEx isn’t really open yet, but please feel free to poke around!
An explanation on pages
As you may have noticed, almost every page has its own left sidebar. By the time this site opens, all of the pages will have their own variant of the left sidebar. It is manually added in through the use of CSS. To implement such a sidebar, simply paste this code into the editor box on the Dashboard, placed before any text. Make sure that the editor is in HTML mode, as accessing it through the visual editor will break the code and remove the <divs>.
<!– Begin Left Sidebar –>
<div id=”kj5″>
<div id=”cars-by-brand”></div>
<div id=”leftnav-items”>[ kp8]</div>
<div id=”more-from”></div>
<div id=”leftnav-items”><br />
<ul><li><h2><a href=”../../tag/9F19/” />Click here to see <br />all pages associated with this episode.</a></h2></li></ul><br />
</div>
<div id=”leftnav-bottom”></div>
</div>
<!– End Left Sidebar –>
The <divs>, though seemingly just a jumble of letters and numbers, are actually organized by group to make page editing easier. I have made a glossary of each of the variables:
- kj5 – The div for the left sidebar
- jf2 - left sidebar on the main page
- kg5 - content box for the pages
- cars-by-brand – the div for the top image of the left sidebar; can be changed depending on the page
- grabpics-by-section
- wallpapers-by-section
- about-the-webmasters
- more-lists
- leftnav-items – the div that contains the text on the menu.. Should always be within <ul> and <li> tags to preserve formatting
- kp8 – PHP include Shortcode for the text on the left menu
- kp8 - Cars
- kf5 - Lists
- kr9 - Grabpics
- ay7 - Current Season
- more-from – All episode-specific pages should have this additional menu category on their pages. All episode-specific pages should be tagged with its production code
- <ul><li><h2><a href=”../../tag/9F19/” />Click here to see <br />all pages associated with this episode.</a></h2></li></ul><br /> – This should be changed to the episode’s production code; it allows all pages associated with that episode to be listed on one page.
kp8, kf5, and kr9 can be edited by accessing the Theme Editor from the Dashboard. These menu-specific theme shortcodes will eventually cover all of the other files where many pages use the same menus.
Adding Images
To add images such as Grabpics, Framegrabs, and Promo Images, do not add them to the individual pages via HTML. In the dashboard, at the bottom of the left-hand menu, select “Gallery,” then “Add Gallery / Images.” From there, follow the prompts to upload an image and place it in the proper gallery. Multiple images can be uploaded through the browser at one time.
To add images via FTP, simply upload all images to /wp-content/gallery/GALLERYNAME/ and select “Scan for new images” on the “Manage Gallery” page on the Dashboard.
How to Add Pages
To add a page, simply log into the Administrator Dashboard at http://spemor.freehostia.com/wordpress/wp-admin/. Then, click on the navigation item labeled “Pages,” then “Add New.” You will now be able to add your content in. Please, for any page pertaining to a single episode (for example: Framegrabs, Episode Guides, Reviews, etc), please remember to tag the page using the show’s production code. That will help tie all the pages related to that episode together. If you have any questions, please comment here.
Also, please remember to turn off comments and pingbacks (two check boxes at the bottom of the “Add New” page. This will be key in preventing SPAM (and believe me, there’d be a lot of it) and will help to make it less bloggy. However, on pages such as individual episode guides, they can remain open because it will allow rating and reviewing by the users.
To add pages to the menu, click on “Appearance,” then “Menus,” and add the page to the appropriate list.

Simpsons Channel Redesign, Customary Notification That I’m Not Dead
Yes, I’m still around. Been watching too many movies and spending time on other stuff lately to do any site related things. I’ll start up again soon.
In the meantime, the new Simpsons Channel design is pretty amazing. Check it out.
I’m So Sorry. Please Accept These Five Pounds Of Frozen Shrimp
Well it’s not all done yet, but I’ve waited way too long to upload some season 19 stuff, so some of it’s here. The episode guide has been updated to include everything that’s aired so far, I added a new page in the opinion section called “Predictions,” and I’ve uploaded reviews for “He Loves To Fly and He D’ohs,” “The Homer of Seville,” and “I Don’t Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.” Promo images and additional predicitons and reviews will get done eventually, but I have no idea when. I’m busy lately.
My poor, neglected site
As usual I haven’t been around much lately. I am working on some new stuff for the season 19 episodes that have already aired though. Shouldn’t be too much longer.
Oh yeah, and remember that survey link I posted a few months ago? It’s still open, and here’s the new press release:
” The Fans Want More
demandi.co.uk presents intermediary results of the “Simpsons Movie Survey”
The vast majority of the survey participants consider the film to be a great success. 89% rate it as excellent or good and only 3 % were disappointed by the movie. More than 80% of the participants demand that there should be a second Simpsons movie.
Homer is the most popular member of the Simpsons family (42%), followed by Bart (13%) and Lisa (12%). Asked which other Springfieldian they like best, most participants opted for Mr. Burns (28%) and Ned Flanders (27%).
Fans can still take part in the survey until the 1st November under the following link:
http://demandi.co.uk/uk_4394_simpsonsmovie.php
On the last page of the survey, you can view the intermediary results.”
